Confused? Marketing Acronyms Defined
Today’s marketing is full of acronyms and buzzwords, so it can be pretty confusing to people just jumping into the marketing waters. We have compiled a short list of words that may help you understand and be better able to navigate the waters.
Marketing Acronyms
CRM – Customer Relations Management – refers to practices, strategies and technologies that companies use to manage and analyze customer interactions and data throughout the customer life cycle, with the goal of improving business relationships with customers, assisting in customer retention and driving sales growth. CRM software is a category of software that covers a broad set of applications and software designed to help businesses manage customer data and customer interaction, access business information, automate sales, marketing and customer support and also manage employee, vendor and partner relationships.
SMM – Social Media Marketing (or Management) – the use of social media platforms and websites to promote a product or service.
SMMS – Social Media Management Software – an application program or software suite module that facilitates an organization’s ability to successfully engage in social media across different communication channels. SMMS is used to monitor inbound and outbound conversations, document social marketing initiatives and evaluate the usefulness of a social media presence.
CMS – Content Management System – a software application or set of related programs that are used to create and manage digital content.
SEO – Search Engine Optimization – a methodology of strategies, techniques and tactics used to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a high-ranking placement in the search results page of a search engine (SERP).
SERP – Search Engine Results Page – the page displayed by a search engine in response to a query by a searcher.
PPC – Pay Per Click – You may bid on keywords on search engines, write ads to appear and you will be charged a fee each time a person clicks on your ads.
CPC – Cost Per Click – How much each click costs.
CTR – Click Through Rate – Number of clicks divided by number of impressions (when your ad appears).
CPM – Cost Per Impression – How much it costs for your ad to appear.
SEM – Search Engine Marketing – The use of SEO and/or PPC to improve ranking on search engines either in the organic or paid listings.
Blog – Short for “web log” (I know, not technically an acronym). Used on websites to showcase articles and information about one’s products and services.
